runny nose... again =(

in the afternoon when i was making my way down to orchard to meet ling, i was still lamenting over the hot weather and wishing i was back in china. then on my way back it started to rain and i got my runny nose, again. grrr

you know how u'll miss a place after u get back from there? i was super depressed when i got back from japan, but this time it's better than what i expected (though i still miss their xiao long bao and good weather) probably coz i got a bit homesick over there and was looking forward to be home :) another reason's becoz my days have been pretty packed by activities!

met ling today at orchard (like i said) to exchange presents (i passed her her china gifts and she passed me my bday present) we had teppanyaki which was quite cheap at the food republic and i tried to trick her into treating me but failed
"eh, but you're treating the birthday girl leh..."
"dont kns, today not your birthday"
"but i no money!!"
"i also no money!"
so we went dutch :( i love teppanyaki's taogei!!!
and then we went to starbucks for a venti frappuccino which was super sinful and ling pangseh me after a few sips and i had to finish it all by myself. kanasai.
THEN she dragged me all the way to somerset there to post a letter. when it could be done in the orchard area.
then we went shopping around and i got a scarf for the taiwan trip at forever 21. and after paying by nets at the counter i was like
"ling :( i only have like 30+ left in my account now..."
"wad?! Yess i have 40+"

going to send my family off (they're going to taiwan too!! and we're meeting them there on my birthday!! yayy!!) tmr afternoon. then meeting the np girls for dinner at simpang. foohua didnt say anything about the dinner, just asked me to meet up, but i know it's to celebrate my birthday!! muahahahhaahhaha I LOVE THEM!

:) then i'm flying off with wx on thursday!! yayy!! taiwan!!! yayy!!!

China was damn fun, especially since jy and I were lucky enough to travel with this chinese culture guru who could explain almost every single thing we see along the way, plus predict the weather. I'm super lazy to list out everything that happened during the trip, but for memories sake i shall list out the top 10 things i'll miss about the china trip, 排名不分先后！

1) the chat on the last night
- it WAS supposed to be just between jy and i until we realised at about 5am that shaun has been faking his sleep and eavesdropping on us the whole time. But it was still nice :)

2) the beijing bookstores
- on the last day in beijing we decided to go shopping for books, instead of going to 长城！but we all decided it was a super good trade off at the end of the day. though the books had caused us much distress on days we had to take the train (too many stuffs to carry), and the last day when we tried to pack everything into the luggage (throwing away the body foam and shampoo etc etc to make space)

3) and end up exceeding our luggage limit, by A LOT.
- which is about $241 in total for 11kg (was supposed to be 14kg) by all 3 of us, excluding the ones we hand carried up the plane. My back still hurts from the super heavy backpack. JY's the ultimate. she had a backpack AND a sling bag on her, completely filled with books

4) 上海新天地！
- and the vanilla latte! <3 and the major discovery at starbucks

5) the 白色外套 i got at 秀水街！plus the 印章 i got for the rest as souveniers!! Huiyu is the only one who has seen it for the time being and she said it's very cool! ^ - ^

6) the weather!!
initially i was super paranoid about freezing to death along the streets coz i can't stand cold places (from all my experiences in the super cold no. 10 bus rides in the mornings) but i loved it over there!

7) The food
- not all, but a few good ones are the xiao long bao plus the xiao long bao look alike which can only be found in shanghai, and the KFC chicken, and the dunno wad we ate at 城隍庙 on the last day in shanghai! and 北京烤鸭！！！ omg.

Ok i'll stop at 7 coz i cant really think of anything else, unless the obstacles can be included into the list. the trip was super 困难重重。

we bought a hell lot of books thinking we could post them back to sg since the post office was just below the bookstore, and ended up realising the postage fees were more expensive than all the books added together, and it was the day we had to go back to shanghai, and in the end we had to carry the books plus our luggage (we had no time to pack) all the way to the train station. 超级狼狈。

and on the last day when we're supposed to come back to sg, we went to the airport and realised our flight was being cancelled!! and no one informed us wadsoever. So shaun called down to ask (and they insisted they tried to contact us but couldnt) and blah blah blah and in the end we managed to transfer to another flight which turned out to be a better deal coz instead of having to transit at KL and reaching SG at 11plus, we managed to get on a flight which goes straight back to SG and ended up reaching at about 8plus!

Lucky lucky~!

just now i went into the kitchen for a second serving of the fried rice i cooked just now (it's nice ok!!) and there was a HUMONGOUS lizard by the stove!!! then i screamed for my aunt to chase it away. I dont know why i'm forever the first person to see a lizard u know. the rest of the family are like never aware there are evil lizards lurking around in the house! except me!

wx says he searched online and some said empty egg shells are quite useful in detering lizards. I'm gonna eat eggs every day from now on, if anyone happens to collect empty eggshells for a hobby, please be nice and give the entire collection to me! (i'll update if it works!)

I think the LJ title (it's been QJLJ since i started blogging like 4 or 5 yrs ago. wait lets see. i started in sec 3 tt's 21 - 15 = OMG SIX YEARS!!! i get very sad with i see such huge numbers like i've moved into this house for FOUR YEARS, THIRD YEAR in uni. very sad) can be changed to "My encounters with house lizards" :(

oh yah. as for the exam tomorrow on heavenly math. i think i can just give up and die (not literally, choi!) i was thinking failing it probably wouldnt matter if the world's coming to an end in 2012 but this module has to spoil it for me with people discussing how tt's not gonna happen, and it's difficult not to be convinced when they're the people who are studying the motion of the celestial objects, calenders and all. Am i the only one who doesnt know what is going on?!

I'm trying to read the notes for my heavenly math exam on monday and he WOULDNT STOP TALKING TO ME ABOUT MAPLE STORY!!! In fact, he has been talking whole day, about random stuffs in his school, and jokes he can't even remember. the only time when i get silence is during the 3 hours of tuition. to make things worse, he would torture my kapo one in a while!!! someone save me!

oh btw, this morning i went to school to check the pages for an essay footnote only to find that that particular part of the library 's closed on weekends. ANGRY! i hate footnotes. i really hate it.

now onto happier stuffs! I need to get out of this grumpy mood.

hmmm... been eating packed food these days (except on days i cook but tt's damn tiring) coz grandma's leg been causing quite a bit of trouble =( i miss her cooking! but i gotta say mine's not too bad too =) since i strictly follow her recipe =D

the whole family's going down to dajie's place tomorrow monring!! i can't wait =)

Monday!!! another thing i can't wait too :) by then my exam will be over, my essay will be due. yes ah!!

Yesterday was really fun! =D but becoz grandma can't cook :( wx and I went out to dabao food for both lunch and dinner. Actually i should have cooked hor!! but i dont really dare to cook for so many people. somemore pple like zhiming confirm will complain. and then we wanted to go to expo but there were so many pple we couldnt find a lot! so in the end we went to 兜风 instead =D so nice!

Oh yea, I had a traumatising experience on thursday!!! I went into the room to keep my calligraphy stuffs and i realised there was a lizard by the remote control!!! and then i decided to grab my pillows and blanket and sleep in my grandma's room. and so i had to close the windows (since no one will be in my room ma) and then when i was closing it A LIZARD DROPPED ON ME!!!!!!!!! and at this time the lizard by the remote control had moved to the door and i didn't dare to go out.... and so i squat there and waited for it to go. (i tried screaming for help actually but grandma was the only one at home and she couldnt hear me in her room) and while waiting i called wx and blubbered incoherently into the phone and i think he couldnt really understand wad i was saying hahaha.

and then the lizard moved away and i managed to run out of the room in the end!! so exciting!

it was supposed to be just a short entry to complain about zhiming! okok. back to equinoxes and solstices!!!

note to self: plan NP outing with foohua! (to foohua if you see this -- i think we can only have it in early jan! coz i did a short survey and everyone seems to be busy in december!)

haix.=( grandma's leg's not too well these days. so i cooked for the family today!! my dajie says it's nice lor, the dan kok tastes like what grandma cooks and the beansprouts taste like those tepanyaki ones lor! yummy :D

was complaining to ah po how i really didnt feel like studying the whole day and doing nothing when i know i have loads to do feel terrible. but i dont wanna study =( and ah po said
"不要读咯"
"then考试怎么办？"
"不要紧啦！乱乱写咯！"
woah i like! *thumbs up =D

and so i've decided to just read through the notes and sit for the test on monday. I've got too many programme liao! friday go out with wx, (grandma calls him 高佬 in cantonese wahahahhaa), saturday got tuition + monster zhiming coming to stayover (no need to study liao, kena forced to play computer games with him whole night lor!) and the whole family's going over to dajie's place on sunday!! So excited :D:D:D

tuition in the morning, and that's my last session with the family of 3 sisters i've been tutoring for 3 years. Very sad, and the dad actually asked if i have the time to tutor the youngest one who's going into sec 2 next yr.. but I think i really need to take break and for now the tuition centre one would be just enough. :( but it has been really tutoring the 3 sisters, from chinese, to physics and chem... coz they've been so attentive and hardworking! but i think if i'm going to teach for like i've got to start getting used to such sad situations. and, it's not like we'll never see each other again wad! she'll keep me informed of her olevel results =)

ok then went back home for lunch and no one's at home!! very sad again :( so i took a nap and slept till 2.30. and facebook till now. I really really need to get started on wuyubi if i wanna make it in time to watch the 4.30 show in channel 8. JIAYOU!!!

ok lets see....
- breakfast at long john (with super nice cappucino) with wx in the morning before he went to work! =D
- went to the market with grandma!
- helped to cook lunch coz hao's coming =) which is super fun coz i get to sit by the door and cut the vegetables, like some kampong life liddat!
- lunch, watched dvd coz hao wanted but he ended up sleeping instead, and did some final editing to my chinese drama essay (which means i've got 3 ESSAYS COMPLETED BY NOW WOO!!)
- then dinner time!

ok the excitment starts now (before that was just fun)
- During dinner we were watching the news about some house being burnt down at balestier or somewhere like that. then Dajie turned to us (ahpo and me) and said "oh shit, i cant remember if i've switch off my stove" and we got so panicky! so we finished our dinner within 5 mins and went to Dajie's house together! and that idiot she switched off already la! kanasai. but thankfully it was just a false alarm!
ok the excitment ends (but it's still fun after that!)

- went vivo but carpark full, so we went eastwood centre's cold storage instead
- dajie bought 155 worth of stuffs for her new home, and we finally reached home! =D
- realised we're all very hungry and so grandma cooked 2 packets of instant noodles for us 3 to share =D happy!!
- then i suggested drinking the coffee we just bought from cold storage (chosen by me!), and it tasted HORRIBLE. please dont buy the nescafe Hi calcium thingy it doesnt taste like coffee AT ALL. Dajie told me to pass it to wx and ask him to drink a packet everyday wahahahahahaha but in the end mum says she's bringing it to her office =D maybe to give it to pple she doesn't like whaha
- thankfully the chocolates to go with the coffee are good!!

Ok back to essay writing tomorrow :D

因为意难忘大结局了。

几乎是从高中的日子开始，就习惯了四点半一扭开电视便听到意难忘的主题曲，换过一次，第二首比较好听，但开玩笑时姐姐会学着唱（她并不会闽南语）有点豪迈的第一首主题曲。

说真的，剧情其实并不好看，老到掉牙，而且一星期不看仍能知道故事进展到如何。因为台湾剧真的太会拖了。当中有角色去世至少能拖个两三幕，若是慢性疾病（像那讨人厌的婷婷）则两三个月都死不了。但就是，会每天尽量早回家陪外婆看戏。边喝咖啡边骂剧中人物怎么那么笨、那么坏、那么白痴。

一种很安稳的感觉。

我甚至还以为它好像会一直，就这样播下去。

得知星期五是大结局时还真有点不敢相信。怎么可能啊。后来知道是真的还有点晴天霹雳。最糟糕的是，我星期五居然有讨厌的辅导课，没法赶回家陪外婆看。

外婆是没差啦，没有我在旁边帮腔她仍然会骂得很尽兴。可我却好沮丧，居然要看录的。

今天和科技华文的同学到农场去，在巴士上我们（全班只有8个人所以我们关系都蛮不错的，小班真好，我终于有点找回以前读书的日子）突然聊到了方言，接着话题扯到意难忘去了。最后，还在小巴上唱起闽南歌来。

我说意难忘的第二首歌好听，叶美说他喜欢车站，后来程成说gei-ao最好听，每个人都“对。。。！”“而且一定要是江惠唱的！”我说，好熟悉的名字，但我想不起它的旋律。然后信威就拿出手机播放那首歌，程成第一反应是“哇好夸张！”，但后来几乎每个人都跟着哼了起来。

我说这首歌，中学时有一出戏的主题曲就是它。信威说，这首歌又那么久吗！敏敏说，她好像也有印象，但许久都想不戏的名称。只记得有个坐轮椅的女孩，男主角叫，什么‘达’的。那出戏做完后，我记得我好像也有一点点的失落。

后来想起来了，我很兴奋地告诉车上的人，是“世间路！”敏敏就接着将它的闽南语版本说了出来，其他人们不管我们继续唱自己的。哈哈。

My dajie has finally gotten a house and getting ready to get married :D and the other day my grandma said she dreamed of a random guy carrying pineapples to dajie's new house. so all of us decided to chip in to buy dajie's unit number for 4D, 全打.

No updates these days coz i've been super busy. when i'm not in school i'm giving tuition, when i'm not giving tuition i'm writing essays. or watching chinese wayang, or doing readings, or (trying to) fly kites. hehe. haix. another 4 more weeks of such hectic lifestyle! very sad.

recess week's here.

Monday - stay home to study for tuesday's test
tuesday - test and lesson from 9 to 12
wednesday - wisdom tooth extraction and out of school activity at mediacorp (i was sitting behind ken lim during the singapore idol live telecast la!)
thursday - back to school for consultation and discussion
friday - probably gotta be back at school for another consultation and discussion.

what recess week!?

and this has to happen to me for the e-learning week as well la. i've got tutorials/seminar style lecture everyday on an even week. which makes the elearning week worse than the usual weeks coz i've got to be back in school for like 2 hours everyday on average.

when this semester is over i promise to give myself a well-deserved break and have coffee at home and watch yinanwang everyday!

at the beginning of this sem when i was choosing my modules, i picked chinese drama coz i didnt have any other better choices.

BUT!!! it turned out to the the best mods i've ever taken.

ok i know i have a lot of best mods. when i took chinese lit i taught it was pretty good.. when i took the einstein mod i thought it's a very good choice as well.. and then i took 韵文选读, 中国文化史，history of chinese philosophy, and they all became the best mods i've even taken.

but chinese drama is really amazing. becoz i took it with little interest, and it turned out to be so good! my lecturer is really amazing.

for today's tutorial we had to watch 林冲夜奔, and so shaun and i borrowed the video to watch in the library. and throughout the 25 mins show we were laughing at the weird expression at the beginning, trying to make sense out if it during the middle, and struggling to stay awake towards the end.

But during the tutorial today when my lecturer played the exact same video and explained it to us, it became really nice to watch. when he told us why the 生 had to hold on to his sword, how he entered the temple, the 8 movements he executed when he was going to sleep, shaun and I turned to each other with our jaws dropped.

it's amazing. before this i never knew chinese drama could be watched this way.

and my lecturer gets so excited talking about it. he always says things like "有华丽的背景吗？没有。有复杂的灯光效果吗？没有。有很多的道具吗？只有一把剑！这就是真正的中国戏曲！"

he doesnt just teach us the technical stuffs like reading scripts, he teaches us how to appreciate it, and the process becomes enjoyable just like that. He's that good.

at the end of the lecture he said "所以当你们所中国戏曲很闷的时候，你们要看的是progression of events, 不是 juxtaposition of images. 可是真正会看戏的人买票入场，不是为了看what, 而是为了看how." and jokingly said that 如果我们要看起来很有文化，就说“我最爱看昆曲了！”
me "omg, 帮我们找夜奔 video 的 uncle 和 auntie (refering to the librarians, they are super nice!) 说夜奔很好看嘞！！"
shaun "他们的 level 太高了，我们简直愧为中文系学生！"

我们决定了，以后只看昆曲！！！

tuitioning my life away

i almost died. i had 5 tuition sessions over the weekend! that's about 12.5 hours of my life gone. actually it's not so much of working. it's more of working too much and working too much on days everyone else is resting at home watching doraemon. Haix. anyways i think my usual sunday morning sessions are going to be shifted onto a weekday. I'm still thinking of what to do with the afternoon one, but it's not as bad as the morning one. i've sacrificed too much of doraemon.

and so i dreaded going yesterday. (sundays still not as bad it was my normal routine. sat was a relief and i was super upset i used up my entire weekend for tuition. no idea why i took it up in the first place) but it was after chatting with the kids over there that i felt so much better. not because they were very cute.(actually they were quite cute la haha) but because they've got more tuition than i do. and i'm the one teaching. I've got this kid who's got 2 more tuition sessions after mine (which was the last for myself), and another 4 tuition sessions on sunday, and 3 on a weekday on average. How can u have so many subjects to tuition for?! i asked her. she said she's got the highest record of 8 tution sessions for the same subject, carried out by different teachers. This poor girl has dinner at 8 and sleeps at 8.45 and wake up at 6plus everyday (weekday or not). SO POOR THING!!

Ok about the happy stuffs now. there's this primary school boy in one of my relief classes whose name is alvin (and i always say "'änd the chipmunks'' after his name and he says he doesnt mind people calling him 'alvin and the chipmunks') and he looked very familiar. so i was like "eh i taught you before right?" and he said "yah! last time the english class you forgot already ar?" and sometimes during the class i will ask them random questions for me to know them better (but really i'm just bored) alvin said "cher last time u also asked us a lot of questions leh... you asked me what's my favourite subject, which subject teacher was my favourite teacher..." me "har really?" him "yah... and i was still thinking about that question then you just point to yourself and say "ah me la me la..."..."

then today during secondary science i was teaching light. and while looking at the ray diagrams i suddenly recalled one of mr yap's jokes "eh i thought of a very funny thing my teacher said (and laughed to myself a bit). he said, can you imagine a world without lenses? Your camera will have to be as big as the object you wanna take." and the class was silent for a while but thankfully after a few seconds they started giggling to themselves.

i went to the doctor by myself today! i know it sounds silly to worth an entry but it's like a small accomplishment mah! i guess i've always been too dependent on my family whenever i fall sick. and i didnt want to go to the doctor again but LS messaged me this morning to give me a set of instructions and advice on what i should do. 太感动了！and i'm really beginning to think tt it's retrbution for skipping too many classes last week. I promise i will try not to do that anymore after i've recovered. Cough syrup tastes terrible. I've always hated it since young. why is it so that after so many years no one has tried to come up with a better tasting cough medicine? I'm actually waiting for my grandma to come home with my chicken rice (i'm still craving for that). i think i sound too energetic to be sick. jy and shuan keep telling me that. Maybe it's 回光返照。

think i'm going to die.

had a super duper high temperature of 38.6 when i reached home today. i think i just broke another record of mine. and now the temperature's down but i'm still coughing with a runny nose. and i can't breathe properly. and i'm really craving for chicken rice =(

was down with a fever of 38.2 degree celsius this morning and after coming back from the doctor, i had to sleep in my eldest sister's room which was (i quote winston) "unsuitable for human inhabitation", because apart from having a television and a bed, it was no different from a storeroom, plus super dusty, with lizards entering the room once in a while (i know because i've seen quite a few going there). but it wasn't that bad. after sleeping for about 4 hours i could read my book in silence, talk to kapo, and stare into space. Havent had such time with myself in a long long time. But i dont think i would like to do this for 7 days, and thankfully the fever went away during dinner time. So i guess, it's back to school tomorrow! Yayy! (yayy because for once in life I did my readings so seriously and managed to make sense out of 3 pages of old chinese i would really chui xin gan if i can't attend tmr's lesson). YAYY!

few days ago i went shopping with ling at ps. then she wanted to get a new phone at simling so we went to take the train. and coz this train which just came was about to leave we quickly hopped onto it and realised it's the wrong train! so we got off the train and decided to take a bus to simling instead. and we took a wrong bus! in the end we had to walk there from smu. my goodness.
then i went to the ladies and when i walked out there were quite a few guys standing outside. and they stared at me while i stared at them for a moment. then i realised wad's wrong and quickly turned around and walked away. and while walking away there were outburst of laughter coming from the gents. my goodness.

i had a super fun sit-in today! and to think i tried to avoid it this morning(there's this very funny woman called ghandi and we all try to avoid her as far as possible coz she goes around everywhere hunting us down for sit-ins).. Yup! so i stepped into the class and realised it's a chinese period. but bcoz the teacher on leave didnt leave behind any instructions i allowed them to do their own work so long as they don't make too much noise. but towards the end of the period they were getting too noisy so
me "Ok let's do something constructive! let's do chinese!"
them "har..."

me "I dont care i dont care we're guessing riddles!"
and in the middle of it (some riddles are in a story form) they made me tell the story in english. and i thought since strictly speaking it's not a chinese lesson so why not. in the end we had a funny period with them trying to explain their chinese answers to me in english and it's super funny! and this class is amazing. for the 成语谜语 they come up with 成语 that i've never heard before in my entire life. Eh, but i really did try to make the lesson constructive by explaining to them what the idioms meant after they've guessed it lor! and at the end of the lesson i heard one girl say "that was fun!", which really made my day =D =D
